The Presidents' Challenge

Each year, at its December meeting, the Ring hosts The Presidential Challenge magic competition. This members’ competition is judged by the current and past Ring presidents.

The competition is a rare chance to perform before a set of judges who provide feedback and comments on your act. Although a competition, it is also a valuable learning experience.

    Stage/Parlour/Platform

Time Limit for Each Act

    7 minutes (3 points deducted for 'going over')

Criteria

    Stage presence

    • Projection of Personality
    • Command of Self and Props
    • Confidence

    Appearance

    • Personal Appearance
    • Costume Quality/Appropriateness
    • Comfort-level with Costume/Wardrobe
    • Display of Props

     Originality

    • Points awarded only for display of novel ideas, routines, and presentations

    Technical Skill

    • Manipulative Skills
    • The Practiced and Proficient Use of Magic Props
    • Delivery of Patter and Appropriateness of 'Banter'
    • Direction of Attention ('misdirection')
    • Respect for Assistants
    • Handling of Spectators or Audience Volunteers

Registration

    To register to compete in the Presidential Challenge, come to the December 2006 Ring meeting on December 12th and sign-up.  Only current Ring 19 IBM members are eligible to compete. You must be a Ring member to register.
